An Exhibition of Floral Designs & Horticulture

At The Michigan Home & Garden Show at the Pontiac Silverdome

March 9 - 11, 2012

Design Guidelines

Each Exhibit will have 2 or 3 entries.
Designs must contain some plant material.
Exhibitors choice of plant material, fresh, dried or a combination of
fresh and dried, except for Exhibit # 13 which is all dried.
Tables will be white on the top with black skirts. Exhibitor may use
an underlay.
Designs will be staged in front of silver colored curtains.
Backgrounds are allowed but not required for the designs staged
on the 8’ tables.

Designs will be placed between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday
afternoon (3-8-12) or between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Friday
morning (3-9-12).
Please remember this is a 3 day show and use plant material that
is long lasting. Exhibits must be kept in show condition. Wilted
plant material must be replaced. Show hostesses will be
responsible for watering exhibits.
The Flower Exhibition Committee and Show Span (the
show’s producer) will exercise all due care to protect exhibits
but cannot be responsible for loss or damage to the exhibitor’s
property. All properties must be marked with the exhibitor’s
name. Valuable items should not be used in exhibits.
No exhibits may be removed before 6 p.m. at the close of the
show on Sunday (3-11-12) and must be moved by 7:30 p.m.
Being an exhibition, entries will not be judged.

Design Titles

Remembering Past Shows: Each design exhibit will honor a past show.

Exhibit 1 – 1992 - Welcome Home! A design staged on a door, welcoming
everyone back to a District 1 Show. 3 Entries.

Exhibit 2 - 1994 - Anywhere I Hang My Hat is Home The Exhibit will be
                  a hat, either decorated with plant material or made from plant
                  material. It will be staged on a female valet form which may
                  be dressed or draped with fabric. Accessories may be added.
                  Pictures of the form are available. 2 Entries

Exhibit 3 - 1995 - Quilting Time A Small (8” or less) Design staged in
off white boxes. Pictures and dimensions will be sent to the
exhibitor. 3 Entries..

Exhibit 4 - 1996 - Island Hopping A Small Design (8” or less) staged
in a divided black frame. Pictures and dimensions will be sent
to the exhibitor. 3 Entries

Exhibit 5 - 1997 - Motor City Madness A design staged on one third
of a 30” by 8’ table. Exhibit will have a space 30” wide. 3 Entries.

Exhibit 6 – 1999 - That’s Entertainment Design staged on a black
pedestal, 36” high with a 12” square top. 2 Entries

Exhibit 7 - 2000 - Festival! A floor design staged in a 30” square space.
3 Entries.

Exhibit 8 - 2001 - Jazz! A design staged on one third of a 30” by 8’
table. Exhibit will have a space 30” wide. 3 Entries.

Exhibit 9 - 2002 - You Gotta Have Art! A design interpreting an
                  artwork (painting or sculpture). Exhibitor to provide a picture
                  of the artwork, which will be displayed on an easel. Design
                  staged on a black pedestal, 36” high with a 16” square top.

Exhibit 10 - 2003 - Madame & Eve - A Celebration of Women
A functional table for 2. Table is 36” round and skirted in
black. Exhibitor to provide an overlay cloth. 3 Entries.

Exhibit 11 - 2004 – Broadway A design inspired by a Broadway play.
                   Exhibitor to provide the name of the play. Design to be staged
                   on one third of a 30” by 8’ table. Exhibit will have a space 30”
                   wide. 3 Entries.

Exhibit 12 - 2005 - Games of Life A Small Design (8” or less) using an
                    item or items from a game (example: cards, dice, game
                    pieces, etc.) staged on the steps of a 3 stair, spiral library
                    stair. Pictures will be provided. 3 Entries.

Exhibit 13 - 2006 - Come Fly With Me! A design hung in a 27” wood
                    hoop using all dried plant material. The hoops will be on a
                   30” deep by 8’ table. The hoops are different colors and color
                   choice is on a first come first choice basis. Designs will be
                   hung in hoops using fish line. 3 Entries.

Exhibit 14 - 2007 - Zoo-rific! An Exhibition table staged on one third
of a 30” by 8’ table. Exhibit will have a space 30” wide.
Exhibitor may provide additional staging. 3 Entries.

Exhibit 15 - 2008 - Tropical Breezes – A design staged on one third
of a 30” by 8’ table. Exhibit will have a space 30” wide.
3 Entries.

Horticulture & Special Exhibits

   Since this is an exhibition and not a Standard Show, there will be no
   horticulture brought in for judging. However, we are looking for some clubs
   or interested individuals to do some horticulture and educational displays.

If your club has a special project, this would be a great opportunity to share
it with the public.
